The American portion of the team as we start our journey on Wednesday, July 18.  (Left to right) Marty Knight, Kyndall Knight, Robert Swain, Derek Phillips, Debbie Moreland, and Paul McLendon Team members gather in the church auditorium  for our initial team meeting on Saturday, July 21.

Preparing bottles of water for distribution in the city park.  Labels advertising our campaign were attached to each bottle before they were given away in the park.   Beware of elders bearing butcher knives!  Paul applying some unusual techniques to keep the team motivated!

More bottles.   The grape arbor in the courtyard of the church property was absolutely loaded with grapes, not to mention the beautiful flowers.

This banner hung in the church courtyard inviting the general public for Bible studies.   Robert speaking during the Bible class hour on Sunday, July 22.

Marty preaching on Sunday, July 22.   Debbie studying with Claudiu Demes-Pop, one of the translators, who later in the week was baptized.

Derek, Kyndall, and Raoul studying with Vlad on Monday, July 23.   The team beats the heat - or at least tries to - beneath the grape arbor during a break in studies.

Derek prepares to baptize Claudiu in a bathtub at the church building.   Our new brother, Claudiu, arises to walk in newness of life!

Romanian Christians gathering for service on Monday, July 23.  (Left to right) Dan David, Raoul Szatmari, Bianca Grigorivici, Cristina Grigorivici, Eleana Grigorivici, and Klara Veer.   Monday night also brought us an additional group of American workers, led by Phil Jackson (far right).  Phil and his wife, Rebecca, were part of the initial mission team that established the congregation in 1996.

Magdalena studies with Derek, Kyndall, and Claudiu Murtaza of Craiova.   Raoul and Bianca search through records and call former students with invitations to study.

Robert and Raoul study with Elizabeta.   (Left to right) Stuart, Dan, Chris, Robert, Kyndall, Derek and Claudiu prepare to distribute two suitcase loads of bottle water in the city park.

Debbie and Bianca enjoy Romanian pancakes (crepes) at the home of Zica, one of the sisters from Cluj.   Claudiu with three of the young ladies who came for studies throughout the week.  Maria (far right) was baptized later in the week.

Team photo taken on the Citadel, a large hill that overlooks the city of Cluj-Napoca.   A joyous Lidia celebrates her baptism on Saturday, July 28.

Lidia (second from right) and her teachers - Robert, Dan, and Debbie   Dan takes Maria's confession before baptizing her into Christ on Saturday, July 28.

Marty with two Romanian preachers - Gabriel Ciruas of Arad and Vasile Iuhos of Oradea.  They stopped in Cluj for a visit on their way to a retreat in Busteni.   Marty trying to get comfortable in the old pews at the ancient Reformed Church.
The team poses on the steps of what is left of a 2,200-year-old Roman wall that once surrounded the city of Napoca.
The team poses in the Roman Forum on Monday, July 30.  The building immediately behind the team is part of an ongoing archeological restoration.
Tradition holds that this building was the meeting place for the first century church in Rome.  Just imagine - Paul's letter may have been read for
the very first time in that building!
